Divide And Conquer For Allentown's 22nd District

During last week's debate for the Special Election to fill Josh Siegel's vacated Pa. House Seat, Ana Tiburcio on several occasions answered that she was not familiar with a particular issue. Meanwhile, on the dais, Bob Smith was animated and appeared more informed. Now keep in mind that Tiburcio just learned that she was a candidate after Julian Guridy disqualified himself. Smith, meanwhile, had run in the past.

Immediately, in response to Tiburcio's performance, several people have called for writing in Ce-Ce Gerlach, who is a candidate for the full term primary in May. It occurs to me that the intention of promoting a write-in vote is to divide the Democratic vote for Smith's benefit.

There are people, such as streetwise activist Eddie Aviles, who feel that if Tiburcio wins, she may well go on to win the full term in November of 2026, and that she is the least qualified of all three previously mentioned.

  1. Once she gets up to speed, I hope she’s more qualified than Gerlach.

  2. anon@7:07: I do not live in the 22nd, do not have a horse in the race, and believe all three are qualified.

I credit Tiburcio for her sincerity concerning topics with which she was not familiar. She has a tax service, and I'm sure is bright.

Smith was actually over-rehearsed reading his speech. I think that he understandably overstated his "maverick/independent" status running in a blue district. He has been around a long time and would be ready from day one.

Gerlach is quite progressive, but the district was carved out years ago to represent Allentown's minority viewpoints.

This post may well offend everybody, but its purpose is to analyze what is occurring.

  3. While I expect that comments will promote favored candidates and dismiss opponents, I will not print unsubstantiated comments concerning their personal debts, overdrafts, etc.

  4. Robert Smith Jr. will win this special election he is actually running a viable campaign, most people will not even bother to vote next Tuesday.

  5. don@5:07: I agree that "organic" interest in this election seems very light, and that "recruitment" of voters will prevail

  6. I watched the debate. As a preface, CeCe is not a viable candidate for the democratic party. And she has not shown herself to be someone capable of addressing broad issues. She has shown herself to have a narrow agenda and a visible bias time and again on council. With regard to the debate, Mr. Smith came across as knowledgeable of the issues but also with an agenda mirroring his party. Ana comes forth with a lot to learn about in terms of what's happening but she isn't saddled by agendas.
