Humiliation vs. Diplomacy

Trump's problem with the Trump War with Iran is that ending it takes at least grade school diplomacy, not schoolyard bullying. Threats to bomb them back into the Stone Age, or destroy their civilization, only appeal to the pickup truck MAGA and Republican partisans too afraid to speak out. Apparently diplomatically, the best Trump can do is threaten to destroy their bridges and power plants.

Everyone in the world knows that he is unfit for the mess he got us into, except the Ryan Mackenzies, hoping that only the MAGA remnants show up in November. He(they) are wrong about that. On the contrary, Johnny pickup with the flag will stay home, and the rest of the country will be out in force.

Post Trump there will be two problems, among others. One will be for Republicans, and another for Israel... both will suffer consequences. For Israel, the Trump MAGA will be gone, and traditional Democratic support has been challenged by Netanyuhu's aggression.  For Republicans, Trump's ballroom alone will piss people off for a decade.

  1. Negotiations usually mean compromise with both sides feeling like winners, Trump is still set on demanding surrender.
The Iran war is very likely to result in historic political shifts to the gulf nations, Israel and the U.S. position in the world, none for the better. It is not over and may very well have even more devastating consequences.

    1. Trump doesn’t require “surrender”.
Where pray tell do you get your information? He requires that the Strait be open and all nuclear material is forfeited.
Flights of delusional fancy don’t add to a rational discussion.

    2. If you read the 15 point U.S. terms, it does not use the word Surrender, but that is the result. Remember, before the war, IRAN did not have a nuclear weapon, were willing to negotiate the enriched Uranium, the enrichment that was undertaken after the U.S. pulled out of the previous deal. and the Strait was open to all.

  2. anon@10:17: He certainly was requiring surrender, but then his demands and threats change daily. I often will not print such Trump apologetic nonsense, which then requires a reply.

  3. Trump is actually doing what other Presidents lacked the courage to accomplish.
The world deserves to know that Iran lacks the capacity for nuclear weapons.
Israel deserves a Gaza without a Hamas and a neighbor in Lebanon without a Hezbollah. The entire world deserves un impeded shipping.

  4. adams@12:22: After Israel's domicide in Gaza and southern Lebanon, there will be Hamas & Hezbollah for generations to come.
The shipping was unimpeded before the war, and would be now except for Trump's blockage.

  5. Another TACO Tuesday and another chance for Trump's and his inner circle to take advantage of heads up to adjust their portfolios before Monday's closing bell. Trump's friends and family will see their portfolios up 1.0 - 1.5 % in a single day courtesy of his after hours TACO move. At this point, the Iranians may just want to string the war out for a couple of years.

  6. Some facts of life: Mackenzie’s problem is that the MAGA pickup truck use to cost $65 to fill up before the war——now it’s $120 to fill. Re: Trump as Jesus…..if there is actually a God isn’t it time for locusts & boils to descend on Trump? Asking for a friend.

  7. Here’s a factoid: There is no political Palestinian presence in Jordan, or Egypt, or any Arab state other than Lebanon
or the Houthi. Hamas and Hezbollah are Iranian proxies totally dependent on their Shia client
    state.
    Print this.
