In Bill White's recent column, he reminds us of how important local news is for democracy. I don't take issue with that premise, just with his memory about the Morning Call's objectivity. As someone closely involved with many issues for three decades, I can tell you which side the paper took on any given topic. I can tell you which reporters slanted which stories.
Remnants of that era still exist, Bill White among them. He and fellow Morning Call alumni always circle the wagon defending each other. I guess the notion that they didn't work for a Pulitzer caliber newspaper is more than they can accept. Ironically, one of their best reporter/columnists has been since shamed by scandal.
For outside columns, they have been using the same stable for decades. Don Cunningham, Tony Iannelli, and Alan Jennings still regularly appear. Like fine wines, apparently they improve with age.
Bill White is as Liberal biased as 95% of what appears politically and editorially in that failed newspaper. He does try, of course, to hide his bias, but fails even there.
ReplyDeleteThat entire Morning Call news operation is designed to call down the current Administration in Washington, particularly President Trump. My goodness, if you just reprint garbage from the New York Times, Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, etc. you are just getting political propaganda designed to deceive you.
Those who take the time to move outside that slanted Morning Call orbit come to understand there really are logical and good things happening in America that will make the futures of our families better.
Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very real condition that has infected too many media operations, from lowly participants such as Bill White right up through corporate board rooms. It’s sick and it’s wrong.
Go elsewhere to better understand the world around us.
Rather that form of TDS than yours- Trump Delusion Syndrome.
ReplyDeleteanon@7:00: I was wondering where "elsewhere" is for anon@5:35?
ReplyDeleteFellas, you are making this too difficult. The easiest source to use is Truth Social where you’ll find the exact, un-retouched statements from the current President. Not just claims about his opinions.
ReplyDeleteNext, pay a visit to Conservative Treehouse. Don’t let the site name throw you. There you will read ACTUAL quotes and documents, in their entirety, also un-retouched and by all the key players, both Conservative and Liberal from this nation and other nations.
There is no more comprehensive site than what you will find at Conservative Treehouse, including exact copies of actual documents, including proposals to/from Members of Congress and Administration officials past and present. Real, unedited videos, too. Hundreds of knowledgeable readers comment each day from every perspective. It’s not just the Conservative view!
The problems for everyone’s true understanding arise we allow corporate news media to interpret what’s happening from THEIR, normally slanted, weaponized perspective to push one selfish narrative over another. Smaller, independent news organizations are doing a much better job than the big media conglomerates who use places like our Morning Call as mouthpieces.
What Allentown needs is a Morning Call that pretty much stays inside its own LOCAL territory, where it has/should have firsthand knowledge to share. The Morning Call’s State and Federal political coverage is pretty much left-leaning, semi-accurate, garbage all the time.
I’ve been a 7 day, hard copy subscriber to the Morning Call for more than 50 years. I could easily live without it, but do have money to waste here and there. The Morning Call was better years ago. Maybe some of that can slowly return under different ownership and management.
I bet NYC where Mandami be happy to see him!
ReplyDeleteWhite is ALMOST correct.
ReplyDeleteUNBIASED local news is important to democracy.
What the Call puts out is far from that.
It's sad you can't let go of that time Bill labeled you as being "dour and misguided" he's a good man with a big following, a pillar of the community.
ReplyDeleteAli@8:03: A truly ironic comment from "Somebody" who can't let go of anything. Bill Villa (do you know him?) has been using that as an insult against me for 15 years, along with attacks against many other people. I'm disappointed that blogger Allentown Truth is hosting comments from the Silver Fox (do you know him?)
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to place your comments at Allentown Truth (for now) because most bloggers don't want anything to do with your poison, regardless of which pseudonym you're using.
