Last fall when Republican DA Gavin Holihan endorsed Josh Siegel, the local Republicans were upset. He was endorsing a Democrat, a no-no in politics. To add to the angst, Siegel, a couple positions earlier, had marched with a defund the police group.
Earlier this week Siegel announced the eviction of a federal enforcement agency, playing on the current emotions against ICE. Never mind that this particular agency is involved with human trafficking, not deportation. Among those upset with the decision is Holihan, who counts on and cooperates with that agency against traffickers.
The eviction dog and pony show was co-sponsored by Siegel and Mark Pinsley, a perpetual candidate now running for the 7th Congressional district nomination. Like Pinsley who is currently County Controller, Siegel may have ambitions beyond County Executive. I doubt that Holihan will want to be bitten three times.
Are there any serious people left in this county? It seems the residents just love posers and charlatans.

Siegel , like Pinsley, is definitely aiming higher than County Exec. Lifetime elected official. Even though I’m a Democrat, there’s no way I could vote for him. Pinsley too.
ReplyDeleteHas Holihan really been bitten at all? Siegel’s “F the Police” and support of defunding them were well documented, and it’s not like he hid those positions while serving as state rep (his position immediately before becoming county executive).
ReplyDeleteYet Holihan, a political unknown when he first ran for office a few years ago still endorsed Siegel this past November.
That leaves us with two conclusions:
1). Either Holihan is an idiot who made an endorsement without ANY knowledge of who/what he was endorsing, or
2). Holihan’s beliefs are in line with Siegel’s, and he’s a stealth radical serving as the District Attorney.
Neither possibility bodes well for Lehigh County.
I will be watching to see how Holihan resolves this issue. He has already said that the funding for the office space was to (or could come) from his office using drug seizure money on hand.
I do know that had DA Martin still been in office, Siegel’s press conference would have been met with a forceful response and quickly undone with action from the DA’s office. I’ll be watching to see if Holihan makes any effort to fix the problem he helped create.

ReplyDeleteanon@7:03/7:16: Talk of "sleath", I doubt that you're a Democrat. I believe that there was some legislation supported by Siegel as state rep. that enhanced public safety, thus Holihan's support. In my view being bi-partisan isn't a sin, although it did bite Holihan in this case.

Judges can cross register because they're not supposed to be politically partial, I suggest neither should district attorneys.
Anyone who has any knowledge of Pennsylvania politics in general and Lehigh County politics in particular knows that Republican D.As don’t support Democratic candidates for County Executive on the basis of support for a single, or for that of matter multiple, pieces of legislation.

Why? Because of Presidential leadership that is focused on catching and removing criminal illegal aliens in the US, and the surge of the National Guard into Washington DC that has reduced the murder rate there by 40%!
Those results are meaningful for Americans trying to improve their lives, and comes despite never-ending roadblocks out in place by anti-law enforcement, pro-criminal democrat politicians. If democrat politicians would work with the federal government instead of against it, we would see even greater improvement.
THAT is what people will be voting on in November, and I can’t wait to see many of those same, smug democrat politicians removed from office.
That removal can’t start soon enough for the likes of Pinsley and Siegel.
