When Tariffs Were Trump's Big Fumble

The tariffs were Trump's first fumble, but nothing compared to the war with Iran. When Colorado Congressman Jeff Hurd voted against the tariffs, Trump supported a primary opponent against him. Now that the midterms are looking more precarious for the White House, he has bribed the opponent off, and is supporting Hurd.

Who could have foreseen that beating up our allies with tariffs could have consequences:) Who could have foreseen that attacking Iran could end up affecting world energy prices:) When a president has surrounded himself with such experienced, seasoned advisors, and is open to push back, what could go wrong:)

Although I believe that the Republicans will lose bigly in the midterms, it doesn't matter that much. Not having had 10cents worth of institutional knowledge in the Trump White House, will cost this country for at least the next decade.

  1. Let’s hope the Democrats get a chance to address the concerns of the American people in both domestic and foreign affairs with their policies and leadership.
I see only good things coming.

  2. I suspect that these disasters are not so much due to incompetence as reaching a goal designed by others. What is happening may actually be the plan, chaos, disintegration of stability. It seems to be the plan for decades now.

I guess our allies aren’t afraid of those same consequences, since they all tariff us, previously to THEIR advantage.

  5. A big mis-calculation by Trump who was no doubt having his ego stroked by Netanyahu. Trump surely thought it would be a one or two day deal and then the good people of Iran would rise up and take over. He must be kicking himself for the impact on oil prices, war costs, possible decades of Middle East instability and further inflation pressures. Very bad decision by Trump to start this war.

    1. Not a bad revision at all. The stated goal from the start was to destroy Iran’s ability to deliver a nuclear bomb at any other country. They already lied after our previous excursion into there and continued to create materials required for such a bomb. The Iran spokesperson (probably now dead) on Day One of this conflict boasted they already had materials on hand to create 11 such bombs. Now, they have no Air Force, and almost no large scale missile launchers to send them Their navy is reduced to small, 4 person watercraft.

Israel’s objective goes further than America. They are looking for a regime change, we would like to see that but continued bombing is much less necessary now. Our objective was to soften the battle field for Iran’s citizens to rise up and take over. That might happen, but I doubt it. In 5-6 years we might want to ‘mow the lawn’ there once again.

  6. It ain't going well with the ever increasing TSA lines at airports despite ICE reassignments. I expect soon TACO Trump and the Republicans will cave to a Democrat supported TSA funding bill. (Even though they will pretend otherwise)

Tariffs are negotiated by a great number of people over a long period of time before they are agreed upon by signed contracts. No other leaders (except Trump) blow off those contractual agreements flip flopping almost weekly.

Countries will long remember how quickly the U.S. changes the terms (w/o discussion) every time a new leader happens to get elected who may not honor them in the future like Trump has done. In other words we've lost the faith and trust of other nations because of him. Something that will be almost impossible to restore.

  8. Truth from a FB post: "We live in a country where an alcoholic former FOX news host runs our military, a former heroin addict is in charge of our health, a guy with no national security experience who challenged a union leader to a fist fight on the senate floor is about to lead the department in charge of keeping us safe from international threats, and they all report to a convicted felon."

  9. Will someone here PLEASE tell this Independent voter why voting for a Democrat-Socialist candidate in 2026 would be a better option for me and my family than voting for someone running as a Republican?

Of course, Trump isn't even running for re-election, but I still am not at all impressed by what I'm seeing and hearing from the Democrat-Socialist crowd on the other side.
