A recent article in the Wall Street Journal thought that the spat between Trump and Leo didn't hurt the Republicans too bad, that such disagreements were expected now and then. I disagree with the article's conclusion, but with Vance then jumping in, perhaps the author would also disagree.
In a more tempered administration, perhaps the VP would have gone out of his way to be the good cop. But there is no moderation in Trump's White House. The Trump apologists will comment that they're just more honest than I'm used to, but in reality, the Office of Diplomacy must have been in the torn down East Wing.
So you offend 20% of the population. You break alliances going back to WW2. You take a chainsaw to government services, and schedule cage matches at the White House. All that's fine if you care more about winning than quality of everyone's life. However, as some commenters tell me, Trump isn't running again. My question for them is will MAGA come out for 2028?
ADDENDUM: There were assorted opinions about how Trump would behave at the Correspondents' Dinner. Although it was abruptly interrupted, we're grateful that there were no casualties. How the incident will affect the rescheduled dinner remains to be seen. Trump doesn't seem to be treating the press any more reverently since the dinner, telling a 60 Minute host that she is a disgrace.
The Pope came out against endless war, I suspect every Pope was at least publicly against war.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that the Pope recently toured northern Africa and remarked about Islamic mercenaries, supported by western powers, engaging in terrorism and assassinations in Africa. I suspect the Pope, through his endless contacts around the world, has a clear view of the causes of war around the world.
Do you truly believe that a duly elected President of the US should offer deference to the snide comments of 60 Minutes Lib host?
ReplyDeleteanon@8:38: When Trump doesn't like a question, in this case she was quoting what the shooter wrote, he calls the reporter a disgrace. He has called reporters piggy, ugly. He mocked a reporter with a tremor. He recently insulted Macron's wife.
ReplyDeleteNo president in history has treated reporters and people as poorly as Trump. It is not honestly, it's lack of control. Enjoy your man now, because the consequences are coming in November and in 28.
Bullsh*t!
DeleteThe sleazy 60 Minutes reporter quoted the rantings of a mentally disturbed democrat (I realize that’s redundant) to air a phony charge against the President. It was a smear that others had already been successfully sued for (by the President), and probably the only way that the “reporter” (and the show) could have aired the remark without getting her network sued (again).
The reporter knew what she was doing, and the President rightly called her out for it.
I suspect that the reporter got the cheap publicity she wanted out of the encounter, but I have no problem with the President calling her out for who she is.
I’ll take the pope a lot more seriously in national affairs (like radical Islam, immigration, helping the poor, etc.) as soon as the pope tears down the walls around the Vatican, starts redistributing the wealth of the church, and I get a vote in his selection.
ReplyDeleteUntil then, the pope is just talking about others doing what he won’t do himself.
So the reaction was started after the reporter quated part of the shooter's manifesto: ‘I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.’ Huh, go figure, he just assumed he was being refered to.
