There is political buzz in Israel about Gadi Eisenkot, a former general and chief of military staff. Although Eisenkot favors a two state solution, he would retain established settlements in the West Bank. He also favors less dependence on United States.
His parents were immigrants from Morocco, so he has a foothold with the Sephardic block. In 2025 he formed the new Yashar Party, however in Israel parties are numerous.
While currently polling one point ahead, that may not be enough against such a political survivor as Netanyahu. A developing issue is that he would likely need the support of an Israeli Arab party, alienating other segments of the Israeli public. Israel has coalition governments, much more complicated than our two flavor system.
It’s worth noting here that Hamas has no interest in any vestige of a “Two State” solution.
ReplyDeleteanon@4:32: Eisenkot is no dove. He was head of the IDF and lost a son fighting Hamas in Gaza. He would, down the road, "consider" a Palestinian state on "part" of the West Bank, retaining certain long established Israeli settlements there.

Who, pray tell, would be the governing body in Gaza?
Does anyone think HAMAS will roll over in Gaza and let another political entity take the helm?
Does anyone believe that the Israeli electorate will accept HAMAS as a neighbor and a political partner?
Israeli Arabs feel blessed to be citizens of the only stable, democratic, and prosperous countries in the immediate region.
The 2 State Solution has no constituency anywhere.
It’s politically DOA.
