This blog is seldom associated with good news. Gloom and Doom are the usual regulars. Today however we're wearing happy shoes. All ten candidates to replace Jon Irons on the board of commissioners are more qualified than he was. Actually, with the exception of Ron Beitler, all ten are mostly more qualified than the remaining board members, who will choose the replacement.
Going deeper into this analysis, all ten are also more qualified than the County Executive. I suppose at this point I'm no longer wearing the happy shoes. Time to bring up the budget deficit. Our progressive leadership wouldn't mind a wealth tax.
Talking of the leadership, perpetual candidate Mark Pinsley is once again casting his reel for Harrisburg. His opponent is my favorite official, but being an R is no advantage come this November.

ReplyDeleteHave any of the candidates spoken out against any of the radical policies that the current executive promotes? In fact, I think many of the candidates supported and endorsed his run for executive.
Given that, I find it highly likely that we’ll be getting a party hack who will be a reliable rubber stamp for the executive.
That won’t be much change from the commissioner they’re replacing, but certainly not a reason to celebrate.
anon@6:03: By law all the applicants have to be D's. However, all have governing experience, with even former executive Armstrong himself on the list. All are less progressive than Jon Irons, who is being replaced. You would probably be happier with a Republican, even one who lacked any experience.
